It is a pleasure to release the Tamil Version of the book “ Gabbilam”  authored by
Dr.S.Chellappa IAS (Retd) and address this distinguished gathering here today.
At the outset I congratulate the author Dr.S.Chellappa IAS (Retd), for his initiatives to
bring the Tamil Version of the poem penned by Gurram Jashuva, one of the renowned Telugu
poets of the 20th century. Telugu is a beautiful language. I had the opportunity of going through
‘Gabbilam’. It is a master piece. His mastery over  words, coining of poetic verses are really
marvelous. His poems have a blend of human touch. His poems rekindle the spirit of unity and
oneness.

John Keats said,   “Poetry should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and
appear almost a remembrance”.

In ‘Gabbilam’, the author in his poems, on journey of a bat starting from Thanjavur to
Kasi presents the rich heritage and culture. His poems touches ones heart when one goes
through poetic narration which picturises the sufferings and hardships faced by the
underprivileged. Gurram Jashuva is a revolutionary  poet – a  ‘Bharathidasan’ of Andhra
Pradesh.

It is befitting that this book is brought in Tamil by Dr.S.Chellappa IAS., the former Special
Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh. His strong knowledge in Telugu and the deep impression
that ‘Gabbilam’ has caused, has made Dr.S.Chellappa to bring it in Tamil.

I am confident that this will win the hearts of its readers especially the youth. Literary
Associations, Publishers and Scholars should come forward to translate such masterpieces in
other languages.

Gurram Jashuva in his poem portrays a new India, the one which was dreamt by Mahatma Gandhiji, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr.B.R. Ambedkar and other revolutionary leaders.

I convey my warm felicitations to the author, Dr.S.Chellappa, the members of Thiruvalluvar Tamil Sangam, Hyderabad and to all those who are associated in bringing the Tamil version of the book ‘Gabbilam’.

I conclude with the words of W.Somerset Mauagham,
“The crown of literature is poetry. It is its end and aim. It is the sublimest activity of the
human mind. It is the achievement of beauty and delicacy. The writer of prose can only step
aside when the poet passes.”
My greetings to all of you.   Jai Hind.
